Yes, it's true!  We've changed the title of my first novel to....

drum roll!!!

drum roll!!!

drum roll!!!

A Murder at Rosamund's Gate

My original title, Monster at the Gate, was deemed by the good people at Minotaur/St. Martin's to sound a little too harsh, a little too supernatural--and more importantly--a little too different in style from the type of book I had actually written.

I get that, actually.  In one of my first blog posts, I talked about how the word "monster" was understood in seventeenth-century England, back when it didn't carry the supernatural "Frankenstein's Creature" connotation that it does today.

But you know what? I love my new title. I think it captures the essence of my book better than the first title did.  And hopefully, you'll see why, when my book comes out in early 2013.

For now, you might imagine strolling through the beautiful garden pictured above. Birds, trees, seventeenth-century stonework...and oh no! a body...

It has a way of space/time shifting one directly to the story. I like it!

Debbie, thanks. I thought at first you were saying it sounded like a time-shifting novel, and I thought, 'hmmm, maybe its sounds MORE supernatural now" :-) Hopefully for the next book, I can troll all kinds of crazy London place names for another evocative locale.

Matt, just so long as YOU'RE okay with it.... :-) Since I need to run everything by my Vice-President for Continuity Management.

Jolly, thanks. And don't think I won't be sneaking into bookstores and moving it into more prominent locations on the shelves. And I expect everyone else to do the same! :-)

I've already spoken to several of my coworkers who said they will do this for you in their local stores. Naturally, I will be following up with them to remind them! I will give them a copy of the book for their reward. I'm serious, by the way.

Susie, I'm excited! Where was this photo taken?

David, its my backyard. (who am I kidding? I don't even have a backyard!) It's in England (narrows it down a bit, right?). If you click the link or the picture you can see the blog of the person who took it.

Sounds like something I'd really enjoy! When is it coming out? And is it going to be available on Nook?

The publisher will probably handle ebook rights, but Susie, feel free to make a mental note to call me in 2013 if you need any tech support.

Thanks Jeff. Yes, e-book rights are in my contract.

EE, Thanks!!! I hope you'll like it. My book is coming out in "Winter 2013". I put it in quotes because I don't have an actual release date yet but I'll trumpet it everywhere when I find out :-) Yes, there is a plan to have it electronically delivered, so I imagine that's through nook and kindle.

Mary, that's sweet of you. I've been working with a wonderful copy editor, and she catches everything Matt missed on the first go-round! but thanks for the offer!

Susie, I'm not that sweet. I was just trying to get to read the book before it's published - however, I'm sure you saw through that immediately but you're much too polite to say so!
