Still love "A Friend in Need"
Given last week's tragedy, I haven't felt much like blogging, or doing much writing of any kind.

So instead I'll share something that surprised me.  On my website, I can see which of my posts gets the most unique viewer hits. And for the last six or seven months, my tongue-in-cheek post on The Secret Seventeenth-Century Origins of Dogs Playing Poker?  has consistently received the most page views.

I'm talking about hundreds and hundreds of individual hits. Most of them coming from google, not from people jumping around my website.

Why is this?  If anyone has any insights, please let me know!!!

As you post suggested, "Dogs Playing Poker" has a timeless quality. My guess is that artists who have sold versions "Dogs Playing Poker" have probably asked a similar question, "Why or why are people buying these?!?"

Well, I just think its cute. It would be cuter if it were of cats, but nothing is perfect. But why focus on the animal, rather than on the number? Why seven? Seven has some magical connotations to some, so perhaps seven dogs is seen as magical. Just putting it out there for consideration.

Hmmm...interesting. Is poker better with an odd number of players? maybe there are indeed dark forces at work?
